RESTORATION WORKS
The restoration intervention aims to aesthetically and functionally restore the work of art. Specifically, Redmosaic represents excellence in the recovery of both ancient and modern mosaic works, if time has altered their functionality and beauty. He also has technical knowledge that allows him to carry out delicate and decisive interventions in the transfer operations of works through detachment and relocation on lightened supports.
Rome, Foro Italico - 2023
In February 2023 we were called to take care of the pilot project for the restoration of the paving of the Viale dell’Impero at the Foro Italico in Rome.
In collaboration with the Superintendency and the works management, an exemplifying point of the various critical issues of the entire flooring was identified. Big gaps, small gaps; raised areas; worn tiles.
It consists of 3000m2 of mosaic flooring with black and white tiles for the avenue and 900m2 in the area around the Sphere fountain, created by the Mosaicists of the Friuli school in 1933.
Due to the passage of thousands of fans, atmospheric agents, and in past years also the passage of skates and skates, these mosaics need restoration and reconstruction of the missing parts every 30 years. In the photos you can see the portion identified with gaps closed with cement. After making a contact and photographic survey, these portions were detached with all the cement bedding. The concrete on the back was later removed.
The mosaic was put on clay and rebuilt in its missing parts partly with recovered tiles and partly with new tiles. It was then placed back in place. Punctual interventions also to replace individual broken tiles.
Theater of Villa Torlonia
The theater of Villa Torlonia was built between the years 1841 and 1874 by the architect Quintiliano Raimondi on commission from the Torlonia family. A true jewel designed for theatrical performances but also for parties and dances which contains in its eclecticism styles as diverse as classical, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Greco-Roman. It was damaged during the Second World War and then abandoned to neglect and vandalism. The Municipality of Rome acquired it in 1978 and began the restoration work.
The restoration part of the stone floors which included mosaics and marble inlays was then given to Red Mosaic. In some cases it involved simple cleaning but both the mosaics and the marble inlays were damaged and partially missing. Therefore real reconstructions which, in agreement with the Capitoline superintendency, had to restore its original integrity and beauty.
